Candelabras of white with pink centred blooms are born above loose rosettes of foliage in late Spring. The distinctive flowers of Primula japonica form evenly spaced tiers on stiff, upright stems and thrive in damp, dappled shade, making them useful perennials for woodland plantings, bog gardens and the damp soil close to the edges of ponds.
Choose a semi-shaded position on rich, fertile, moist, well drained soil. Primula japonica will also thrive in a peaty, acid soil and can also tolerate a position in full sun if the soil remains reliably moist. Deadhead faded primula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Divide over-crowded clumps between late Autumn and early Spring. Will also self seed if left to sow.
Height/Spread: 45 cms
