This snakes head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) comes in plum and white (seed colour cannot be guaranteed unfortunately). Looks brilliant at the front of a border or naturalised in grass, happier on heavy soils than on dry chalk or sand. Ideal for wildflower gardens/areas.
Best to start in seed trays as seedlings can be hard to distinguish when first appearing. Flowers from March to May and grows between 15 - 40 cms in height. It is a bulbous perennial that will slowly produce a button shaped bulb about 2 cms in diameter.
If you want them to get established you must leave plants to set seed naturally and not cut down until late June/July. They will then slowly naturalise as they do in the wild.
