Primula florindae, the Tibetan cowslip or giant cowslip, is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae, native to southeastern Tibet, where it grows in huge numbers close to rivers such as the Tsangpo. One of the largest and most fragrant of the primula species, Giant Cowslip is a long-lived perennial favoured by many gardeners with damp and partially shady gardens. Hardy and easy to grow, it bears large umbels of delicately fragrant, nodding, rich coloured flowers in orange and yellow. Blooms over a long flowering season through summer.
Very versatile, can be used in shaded beds and borders, cottage gardens, bog gardens or along stream, ponds or water gardens. Best grown in humous-rich, neutral to acid, moist soils. Of little interest to pests and requires minor maintenance, just cutting back spent stems is self-seeding is not desired.
