Commonly known as Lily Turf, this evergreen perennial is native to Asia and, despite its grass-like appearance, is not closely related to the grass genus but in fact a member of the lily family.
Growing from short rhizomes, it bears tufts of short leaves from which attractive small bell-shaped lilac flowers appear in the summer, followed by glossy black berries in the autumn. Can be used to great effect all year round along the edge of borders or on rockeries.
Happy in any free draining soil, it suffers very little from pests or disease. Can be lifted and divided as required when established. Produces good ground cover if left.
