A tender climber from Mexico, Purple bell vine, Rhodochiton atrosanguineus, bears heart shaped leaves and long dangling flowers from midsummer to autumn. Each flower is composed of a long, slender, purple-black tube growing out of a chalice-shaped crimson calyx. Purple Bell Vine is a stunning plant that blooms for a long time, it is also quick growing and looks lovely climbing up a trellis.
Height: approx 3 meters.
Grow Rhodochiton atrosanguineus in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. It's best grown as an annual in the UK as it is not frost hardy, but it can be kept in a heated greenhouse over winter.
