Robust and vigorous, Primula Japonica are deciduous perennials with attractive whorls of flowers in shades of pink from white through to deep red and purple.  They are spaced at intervals along upright stems and rise above basal rosettesof lettuce-like, bright green leaves.  Thrives in damp, shady environments, where it brings its brightly coloured blossoms in late Spring through to early Summer.  Plant in groups or drifts with hostas, ferns and iris in damp open ground next to streams and ponds.  Useful for woodland plantings, bog gardens and the damp soil close to the edges of ponds.  May be grown in full sun as long as soil remains wet.  Attractive to pollinators.
Best grown in humus-rich neutral to acidic soil which is consistently wet.  Deadhead stems after flowering.  Divide over-crowded clumps between late Autumn and early Spring, preferably during a wet spell.  Will also self seed if left to sow.  Completely deciduous but will return with vigour year after year.
Height/Spread: 30 - 60 cms
