A feature plant for the border in mid-May where they make magnificent shows with many erect stems of creamy-white blooms, densely set on very long stems. They set no seed, only increasing as the bulbs split up. Longer lasting flowers result from planting in some shade and they love heavier soils that hold the moisture in the Spring. A brilliant plant which relishes heavy clay soils. Camassia leichtinii grows principally in mountain meadows of the western USA and can grow in full sun, although it tolerates partial shade as well. The buds at the bottom of the raceme open first, the flowers at the top will still be seen up to a month later. No need to cut back after flowering, they will dry up and the foliage could be pulled out. The flowers are good for cutting.
